The Story

Tucked in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, our Alvarado Street Brewery & Bistro—affectionately known as “the ‘stro”—has been serving the Central Coast since 2018. Originally launched as Yeast of Eden Brewery & Restaurant, the concept paid tribute to our roots in mixed fermentation and wild ales. In 2020, we rebranded as Alvarado Street Brewery & Bistro, aligning with our flagship brand and expanding our focus on world-class beer and California-inspired cuisine.

At the back of the Stro, you’ll find our small-but-mighty Carmel craft brewery, producing just 150 gallons per batch. It’s a creative playground for Brewmaster and co-founder J.C. Hill, a 2024 graduate of the Master Brewer program at Munich’s renowned Doemens Academy. The Carmel brewhouse draws heavily from Hill’s training in Germany, featuring traditional German lagers and inspired takes on classic beer styles from around the globe.

We proudly pour fresh beer brewed onsite, as well as rotating selections from our Monterey and Salinas locations. Whether you're a local or exploring Carmel’s vibrant food scene, we invite you to experience fresh beer, flavorful food, and a relaxed atmosphere that reflects the soul of the California coast.

Reservation & Large Party info

For weekday reservations under 14 guests, please book via Open Table in the link below. We do not take reservations on Saturdays and Sundays. Walk-in guests will be taken on a first come, first serve basis - but we highly suggest making a reservation on Open Table during the weekdays. We offer a private dining room for up to 10 guests that can be reserved in advance. To inquire, as well as group reservations exceeding 14 guests, please email us at carmel@asb.beer and allow for up to 48 hours for a response.
